Factors related game addiction and impact of game playing of students in Samutsongkhram province

บทคัดย่อ

Objective Investigated game playing behavior, rate of game addiction, factor related game addiction and impact of game playing of students in Samutsongkhram province. Materials and methods This survey research was studied among 600 student which selected by stratified random sampling technique from primary (level 5-6) secondary and high school students (level 1-6) who attending in 1st semester o academic year 2006.  Research tool was questionnaires with created by researcher Data collecting was done during January to February 2006 and analyzed by descriptive statistic, Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis.

Results There were  82.8 percent of students playing games.  The majority started playing game at age of 6-10 years old, and attending primary school.  Abou
half played computer game and played games at homes.  Nearly 2/3 of student spent 1-2 hours daily.  Only 7.4% of students were game addicts.  The positive
significant factor related to game addiction was sex (male) and negative significan factors related to game addiction were age, self-esteem and supporting from parents The impacts of game playing among non-game addicts were at moderate to high level such as time wasting, vision and learning.  For the impact among game addict were at moderate to high level such as learning, relationship among family and friends expense, time and health.

Conclusion The majority of students played games.  A few students were game addiction, however it had many impact.  Thus parents should control and make
an agreement to play games appropriately.
