บทคัดย่อ

Objectives  to detect emotional and behavioral problems in children attending allergy clinic

Materials and methods  A cross›sectional survey of a specific sample of children aged 6-14 attending allergy clinic in Ramathibodi Hospital during June 1st
August 31st 2006 was performed by using parental form of Strength and Difficulties Questionaire (SDQ).  SDQ scores, demographic data, allergic and mental health service history were analyzed.

Results  the sample consisted of 163 children.  Data reflected that there were 20.2% of abnormal SDQ.  Emotional difficulties which were significantly related to
being female were the highest rank of all problems.  Of the 33 children with a probable psychiatric disorder interpreted by abnormal SDQ, only 3 had received specialist help from mental health care providers.

Conclusion The proportion of emotional and behavioral disturbance in allergic disorders from this study was about the same rate as finding in other countries but
professional contact in relation to their emotional and behavioral difficulties was much more limited.
