The reminiscence program for the elderly with depressive disorder

บทคัดย่อ

Objective To examine the effect of the reminiscence program for the elderly with depressive disorder.

Materials and Methods Elderly patients with depressive disorders were voluntary participated in the reminiscence program developed by the researcher. The program composed six 30-60 minute sessions. The Thai Geriatric Depression Scale (TGDS) was used to evaluate the level of depression, before and 2 weeks after the counseling. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon signed-ranks test. Qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis at the 2 week follow up.

Results There were 15 elderly patients completed the program. An average age was 67.2 years. All had taken antidepressant drugs. The average TGDS score was statistic significant decreased after the program.

Conclusion The reminiscence program may improve depressive symptoms in the elderly.
