The Process of Schizophrenic Care in the Community of Khon Pean Sub-District Health Promoting Hospital, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

            Schizophrenia is a common mental disorder in which patients with chronic conditions require long-term health care management. The purpose of this study was to examine the process of schizophrenic care within the service areas of KhonPean Health Promoting Hospital which are in Kho Laen Sub-District, Buntharik District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The total number of samples were 39 and were divided into three groups which included 8 caregivers of in-house schizophrenic patients, 21 community network members and 10 medical personnels. Data collection was conducted through interviews. The derived data was categorized in two sections. The first section contained quantitative data. The data was analyzed using descriptive and comparative analysis on the differences between before and after giving care using mean and standard deviation. The second section contained qualitative data. The analysis employed content analysis approach. These findings indicated that after the development, caregivers of in-house schizophrenic patients obtained higher levels of knowledge in schizophrenic care from the previous 37.50% to 87.50% and their attitude level towards schizophrenic patients improved as well as the level of care for them. As a result of the improvement, schizophrenic patients received more efficient care which eventually helped reduce the stress level among those who lived with their families. The success factors that facilitated the process of schizophrenic care in the community were done by every research participant in this study that had a completed the role that covered all aspects of schizophrenic care and every sector that was strongly cooperative. This included providing data, taking part in the workshop, and participating in all conducts, activities, and operations.
