Factors Affecting the Care Practices of Caregivers in the Community for Dependent Elderly People in Sanamchai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Suphanburi

This predictive correlational research aims to study the care practices for dependent elderly individuals in Suphanburi Province and to examine the factors affecting the care practices of caregivers for dependent elderly individuals in Suphanburi Province. The sample group consisted of 111 caregivers of frail elderly individuals in the community, selected based on criteria through simple random sampling. Research instruments include an assessment of knowledge on caring for dependent elderly individuals. Assessment of attitudes toward caring for dependent elderly people motivation assessment for elderly care practices and social support assessment. The care practice assessment tool was evaluated for content validity, yielding an IOC value of 0.66-1. Find the reliability of the knowledge assessment using the Kuder-Richardson formula (KR-20), which yielded a value of 0.69. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients of the questionnaire were 0.75, 0.77, 0.78, and 0.80, respectively. Analyze the data using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis.
The study found that the sample group had a high level of caregiving performance according to the role of caregivers for dependent elderly individuals (M = 4.04, SD = .39). Factors that can predict the caregiving performance of caregivers for dependent elderly individuals in the community include knowledge of elderly care, motivation for elderly care, and social support. These factors together can predict 63.40% of the caregiving performance of caregivers for dependent elderly individuals in the Sanam Chai sub-district, Mueang District, Suphan Buri Province (R2 = .634, F =17.386, p < .05). In summary, it is recommended to promote caregiving practices for dependent elderly individuals by focusing on motivating caregivers, enhancing social support, and regularly conducting training to refresh caregivers' knowledge on elderly care.
