Abstract

This retrospective study aimed to assess the risk of stroke with a Color Chart table in patients with diabetes and high blood pressure and assessed the diagnostic test of color chart stroke risk assessment compared to computerized tomography diagnosis. The 7,338 samples were selected by purposive sampling from a database of patients with diabetes and high blood pressure who received treatment from Ngao Hospital, Lampang Province, from 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022. Research tools include heart disease and stroke risk assessment forms using color chart tables. There is reliability between raters analyzed with correlation statistics (Spearman rho) at a very good level (rS=1.00, p = .000). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy.

The study found that the color chart stroke risk assessment of more than 80.0%of samples in both diseases was in low and moderate risk. The results from Color chart stroke risk assessment were highly statistically significant (p< 0.0001) with computerized tomography diagnosis. When using the criteria from the color chart at the moderate to high-risk level (10%), the sensitivity value is 70.19%, which is better than using the criteria at the high-risk level (20%). The prediction of disease and not disease has a similar value. Suggestions: Stroke risk assessment using a color chart table is an easy tool to screen patients with a risk of stroke. It is low-cost and appropriate for the community hospitals.
