Abstract

Delivering health education to adolescents through digital media is increasingly vital. This quasi-experimental study utilized a pretest–posttest control group design to examine the effects of an educational web application on knowledge and preventive behaviors regarding sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The sample comprised vocational students from an educational institution in Phayao Province, allocated into experimental and control groups (n= 67 per group). Research instruments included the educational web application and an evaluation questionnaire. The content validity index (IOC) of the questionnaire ranged from 0.67 to 1.00. Reliability for the STI knowledge scale was established using the Kuder–Richardson Formula 20 (KR-20= .80), while the preventive behaviors scale achieved a Cronbach’s alpha of α= .93. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Ranks test, and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results revealed that the experimental group’s median knowledge score increased significantly from 16 (IQR= 2) at pretest to 29 (IQR= 2) out of 30 points at posttest (p<.001). Furthermore, the experimental group demonstrated a significantly higher posttest median knowledge score than the control group (Median= 29, IQR= 2, vs. Median= 17, IQR= 3; p<.001). Regarding STI preventive behaviors, the experimental group also achieved a significantly higher median score than the control group (Median= 3, IQR= 1, vs. Median= 2, IQR= 1; p<.05). Consequently, educational web applications serve as a viable intervention for public health agencies and academic institutions seeking to disseminate health knowledge and reinforce protective behaviors among late adolescents.
