THE REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES ON SMOKING PREVENTION FOR ADOLESCENTS

Abstract

          Smoking is an important problem at country level that need to be solved. The impacts of smoking spread at large in short and long terms. Although Thailand has enforced several measures to decrease number of smokers, there are continuously increased of new face smokers especially among teens, age 15-18. This article aims to present the activities effectively prevent adolescences from smoking according to the social learning theory for using in prevention of health loss among teens that will be important human resource of country.

The literature conducted in Thailand and abroad during 2012 –2017 were reviewed, the finding was summarized as follow: 1) context events on smoking prevention of adolescence can conduct as school-based or parent-based program, 2) content on smoking prevention of adolescence comprised of knowledge related to health, adverse effect of tobacco on health, smoking prevention, cause and process lead to smoking initiation, and parental knowledge of effective communication with teenage for changing attitude and behavior on smoking, and 3) program activities including lecture, group discussion, critical thinking, life-skills practice, parental activities, and family role model on not smoking. In conclusion, the program activities in this review showed effectiveness for changing attitude of teenagers toward an important of having good health, increasing of smoking prevention, and spending more time on communication with their family.
