Abstract

Brucellosis is an infection caused by an organism of the genus Brucella. It is a zoonosis which can be presented with various signs and symptoms, as well as severity. Among the most common clinical presentations are fever, malaise, myalgia, and headache. In some cases, patients can develop complications from brucellosis including endocarditis, neurobrucellosis, and inflammation of organs of the reproductive system. Brucellosis affects multiple countries worldwide. There is a high prevalence of the disease in developing countries especially in the Middle East, Africa, South America, and many countries in Asia, including Thailand, are affected. The current burden of disease in Thailand is high due to Thailand being an agricultural country. The bureau of epidemiology of Thailand classified human brucellosis as a disease that needs to be under surveillance and every new case must be reported and registered to prevent further outbreak of the disease. This is a case report of an uncomplicated human brucellosis in Nonthaburi province, Thailand. The diagnosis was made by collecting blood samples from the patient and the patient was treated with oral antibiotics until fully recovered.
