The Role of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Treatment of Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Abstract

Osteoarthritis of the knee is the most common joint disease in the population over the age of 55. This has a widespread impact on the health and quality of life in the elderly. In the situation of entering an aging society in Thailand, Thai population are increasingly prone to osteoarthritis of the knee. The adoption of traditional Chinese medicine treatments, such as Acupuncture and Moxibustion can be used as the alternative approaches. This reviews study was scope on the results of traditional Chinese medications in preventing and treating Osteoarthritis of the knee as well as the Osteoarthritis of the knee in TCM’s perspective in hope of spreading better understanding and knowledge in TCM about OA knee prevention and treatment with acupuncture and moxibustion according to TCM guidelines.
