The Effects of Acupuncture on Waist Circumference and Body Mass Index: A Case Study of University of Phayao Overweight Students

Abstract

Overweight and obesity problems It is considered an important health problem that is a risk factor for various chronic non-communicable diseases. which acupuncture treatment is able to lose weight, reduce body mass index, and reduce waist circumference.  This research is Quasi-Experimental research in the same group of 45 experiments measured three times to compare the results of before and after treatments of the waist circumference length and BMI. It performs a total of 5 acupuncture points TianShu(ST25) ZuSanLi(ST36) FengLong(ST40)  ZhongWan(RN12) and GuanYuan(RN4). One treatment takes 30 minutes, a total of 10, and performs every other day of treatment. Store data using Use demographic records: name, last name, gender, age, weight, height. BMI, waist circumference.  using Population data such as name, surname, sex, age, weight, height, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference were used and The descriptive statistics were percentage, mean, and standard deviation.  and inferential statistics such as Repeated Measures ANOVA. The results showed that after entering the treatment program, BMI and mean waist circumference decreased significantly (p < 0.01 ) This demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture program in reducing BMI and waist circumference. It can be applied to the population with BMI and waist circumference above the standard.
