Factors Affecting Medication adherence of Type 2 Diabetes Patients in Bang Krathum Hospital, Phitsanulok Province.

Abstract

Medication non adherence of type 2 diabetes patients cause complications in many systems of the body, Both acute and chronic complications have shown that the problem of medication non adherence use correlates with poor clinical outcomes. The aim of this study was factors  affecting medication adherence of type 2 diabetes patients in Bang Krathum Hospital, Phitsanulok Province. This study was a case-control study. The sample group consisted of 418 subjects type 2 diabetes patients. The subjects were divided into two groups. Two hundred nine in the case group were those who had medication adherence, while the other 209 subjects in the control group were those with medication non-adherence, by simple random sampling. Data were collected self- administration questionnaires and structured interview. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and multiple binary logistic regression analysis.Results showed that: Factors  affecting medication adherence of type 2 diabetes patients at the level 0.05 such as female (OR = 1.66), Good control level of HbA1C (OR = 2.14), High level of knowledge about diabetes medication (OR = 2.61), Less than 5 pills per day (OR = 2.26), Moderate and high of perceived barriers (OR =2.74) and High level of perceived self-efficacy (OR = 3.43).
