Empathic communication for connection with children

Abstract
Empathic communication with children is an essential role for pediatric nurses that helps children to have good relationships with nurse, build rapport and cooperation in treatment as well as taking self-care including having a better quality of life. The nurse can provide quality of care. The key of successful to effective communication with children is that the nurse is open to listen to what the child is saying or expressing intentionally. The nurses should response to the need of children including having a positive attitude toward children.
This article therefore suggests ways to deal with difficult to approach children, active listening skill, empathic communication skill, communication with children of different ages. In addition, the techniques of using words are to build relationships and understand children to communicate effectively with children.
