Abstract
Abstract
This one group pre-posttest quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the effects of a self-efficacy enhancement program for stretch-squat aerobic exercise on self-efficacy and balance in older adults with hypertension. The sample consisted of 25 hypertensive patients selected using purposive sampling. The experiment lasted for 6 weeks. The experimental instrument was the self-efficacy enhancement exercise program using stretch-and-squat aerobics, which yielded a Content Validity Index (CVI) of 1.00. Data collection tools included: (1) a perceived self-efficacy interview questionnaire (CVI = 0.92, reliability = 0.83), and (2) the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test for balance ability (reliability = 0.98). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests.
The results showed that the mean score on exercise self-efficacy for stretch-and-squat aerobics after the experiment was significantly higher than before the experiment (t 9.99, p <.001). The average postural balance time after the experiment was significantly lower than before the experiment (t 7.17, p <0.001).
