Development of a Nursing Care Service for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to High-Performance Organization

Abstract
This research and development study aimed to develop and study the effectiveness of the developed nursing care services for neonatal critical care patients towards a high-performance organization. This study consisted of 3 phases: (1) situation analysis; (2) development of the nursing care services for neonatal critical care patients; and (3) evaluation the service effectiveness. The sample consisted of 30 registered nurses, 30 neonatal critical care patients, and 30 primary caregivers. The research instrument was the developed nursing service. Data collection tools included the Ministry of Public Health's High Performance Organization Development Assessment Form, the patient and family characteristics and needs assessment form, the nurse competency assessment form, the nurse and primary caregiver satisfaction assessment form, and the neonatal critical care patient safety recording form. The content validity was checked, yielding values of .88 - .99. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
The results revealed that the developed nursing care services for neonatal critical care patients had 3 effective aspects: (1) quality consisted of 1.1 inpatient quality assessment score had increased from 62.00% to 81.00%, 1.2 satisfaction score of the nurses towards the developed nursing care services was very high level at 86.00%; (2) acceptability included 2.1 the competency scores of the nurses before and after the development were significantly different (p < .05), 2.2 the average score of the development of high-performance organizations had increased from 3.78 to 4.21; (3) effectiveness consisted of 3.1 the incidence and complications before and after using the developed nursing services were significantly different (p < .05), 3.2 the satisfaction of the primary caregivers towards the developed nursing care services was the highest level at 96.00 percent.
