Telehealth: An alternative for Elderly health care in community

Unequal and inclusive access to healthcare services remains a significant problem in Thailand’s healthcare system. Providing care for the elderly is extremely important in Thai society, which has fully entered the aging society. Telemedicine is a solution that incorporates information and communication technology to improve services, convenience, and effectively reduce the distance, time and cost of travel to see a doctor for the elderly in the community.
Service provision guidelines to increase efficiency in caring for the elderly through telemedicine services must include user-friendly manuals or learning materials that are easy for the elderly to understand. The service should offer friendly assistance and technical support in case of problems during usage. The emphasis should be placed on ensuring safety measures and protecting the privacy of health information, creating a positive experience, clear communication, follow-up, and satisfaction, including creating online communities or groups for the elderly to share experiences and support each other, as well as investing in new technologies to ensure services are effective and up-to-date. Investing in new technologies will provide efficient services to the elderly in community, enhance their health and quality of life, reduce overcrowding in the hospitals, and improve the quality of treatment in the hospitals that lack of specialists. It also helps develop knowledge and skills of the healthcare personnel sustainably.
