Abstract

Abstract:

This academic article aims to present the current situation and methods to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among Thai adolescents. STIs in Thailand are a public health issue and similar to the situation globally. The incidence of new cases continues to increase; particular the highest incidence rate is found among adolescents aged 15-24. The causes of STI transmission among adolescents include using of various social media platforms to find friends, partners, and making income. Online dating applications are the most popular among adolescents, who often engage in unprotected sex as a way to express love and sincerity. Those behaviors significantly increase the risk of contracting STIs.

To address this issue, the Department of Disease Control has established a national policy aimed at ending the spread of severe sexually transmitted infections by 2030. The measures consist of supporting adolescents in acquiring accurate knowledge and skills for self-protection, facilitating access to screening and preventive services, improving communication channels related to STI prevention, promoting access to condoms, and providing sexual health counseling services that are adolescent-friendly and equally, enabling adolescents to take care of their own health and reduce the incidence of new cases.
