Abstract

               This qualitative research aimed to study the life experiences of caregivers of male schizophrenic patients, with amphetamine addiction in the community. A phenomenological study was conducted to understand the perception of violence situations from the perspectives of the caregivers, who looked after the male schizophrenic patients using amphetamine in the community. This study was conducted between February to May 2024. The participants consisted of 8 key informants and data were collected using in-depth interviews, observation, tape-recording, and field notes taking. Data were analyzed using narrative interpretation of the interviews.

               The results revealed 3 main themes: (1) the meaning of the violent situations, consisting of a feeling of being bored, tire, humiliated, distressful, losing credibility, and discouraged or insulted by the words and looks of the people around them, thus they did not ask the others for help; (2) the causes of violent behaviors in male schizophrenic patients using amphetamines comprised amphetamine addiction and lack of psychiatric medication;

and (3) prevention of violence in caring of male schizophrenic patients using amphetamines includes avoiding confrontation with the patients, finding safe spaces, seeking help from close contacts in the critical situations, and searching for the service channels to treat psychiatric symptoms immediately.
