Abstract

Abstract

Postpartum hemorrhage It is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide. Combining of risk factor assessment and appropriate obstetric care could reduce the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage. The objective of this case-control study was to investigate the incidence and factors associated with the first 2-hours postpartum hemorrhage at Mae Sot Hospital, Tak Province. A sample consisted of 274 medical records of the laboring women. Data were retrospectively collected from the medical records and hospital databases based on general information, obstetrics information and outcomes information. The content validity was checked, yielding a value of 0.92. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Fischer's exact test, and multiple logistic regression.

The results of this case-control study revealed that the incidence of the first 2-hours postpartum hemorrhage was found in 72 cases (2.2%) and no postpartum hemorrhage was found in 202 cases (97.8%). Factors reducing the risk of the first 2-hours postpartum hemorrhage included a first degree tear of the birth canal (OR 0.23; 95%). CI 0.069-0.813, p = .022). Factors increasing the risk of the first 2-hours postpartum hemorrhage consisted of pregnancy ³ 3 times (OR 3.60; 95%CI 1.191-10.899, p = .023), did not complete prenatal care according to the quality antenatal care standard (OR 2.22; 95%CI 1.017-4.876, p = .045).
