Development of a nursing model for cancer patients with chemotherapy induced neutropenia
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this research and development study was to develop a nursing model for patients with chemotherapy and the outcomes of the model implementation. The sample included breast cancer patients treated with chemotherapy. The project had 4 phases: (1) problems and situations analysis, (2) develop the nursing model, (3) the model trial and (4) the nursing outcomes assessment. Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Paired t-teat.
The results showed that the average knowledge scores of the nurses after the model implementation were significantly higher than before the model implementation at the level of p < .05. The average knowledge scores of the patients after the model implementation were significantly higher than before the model implementation at the level of p < .05. The patient also satisfied with the developed nursing model at a high level (Mean 4.47, SD .50). The nurses satisfied with the developed nursing model at a high level (Mean 4.35, SD .58). Comparing clinical outcomes found that the patients, who did not apply the developed nursing model had higher incidents of fever with low white blood cells, sepsis, and postponed appointment than the patients using the developed nursing model.
