Outcomes of the Development of Care Model for Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients in Mukdahan Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research and model development aimed to develop and assess the outcomes of the hemorrhagic stroke nursing care model. The four development phases: (1) situation analysis, (2) model development, (3) model trial, and (4) model implementation and outcome evaluation. The sample of (1) 63 professional nurses, (2) 30 hemorrhagic stroke patients, and (3) 30 caregivers were recruited using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was the hemorrhagic stroke nursing care mode and verified quality using 5 experts. Data collecting tools consisted of (1) a nurse satisfaction questionnaire, (2) knowledge test of a nurse, (3) a patient and caregiver satisfaction questionnaire, (4) outcome data record form on using the model, and (5) caregiver competency assessment form. Cronbach Alpha Co-efficiency reliability of the questionnaire were .80, .78, .89, .89 and .93, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent t- test.
The results revealed that the developed nursing care model for hemorrhagic stroke patients consisted of (1) the emergency room nursing practice guidelines and (2) the inpatient nursing practice guidelines. Assessing the outcomes of the model implementation, it was found that the nurses’ overall satisfaction with the model was at a high level (Mean 4.09, SD .45). Knowledge of the nurses was significantly improved after model implementation (p .00). The hemorrhagic stroke patients’ and caregivers’ overall satisfaction with the model were at a high level (Mean 4.10, SD .49). Comparison of the average on number of hospital stay and medical expenses before and after the model implementation, it was found that the number of hospital stay and medical expenses decreased significantly, p .012 and p .013, respectively.
