Abstract
The objectives of this cross-sectional analysis study were to assess the knowledge level and blood sugar lowering behavior of type 2 diabetic patients and to analyze factors related to the blood sugar lowering behavior of type 2 diabetic patients. The sample consisted of 145 Type 2 diabetic patients with uncontrolled blood glucose control (HbA1C>7mg%). Data were collected using questionnaires, in which consisted of 3 parts: (1) personal information, (2) knowledge about type 2 diabetes, and (3) behaviors of lowering blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. The content validity was assessed using the IOC, yielding a number of 0.80 and the reliability was tested using Cronbach's alpha coefficient yielding a number of 0.72. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. and Chi-Square analysis.
The results showed that the majority (71.0%) of the sample were female, 53.1% aged 60 years and older, 75.9% attended primary school education, 40.7% worked in agriculture, 48.3% had type 2 diabetes for 5-10 years, 83.4% had a high level of knowledge on diabetes, and 55.9% had good behaviors of lowering their blood sugar levels. An analysis of factors related to blood glucose lowering behavior of type 2 diabetic patients found that occupation was statistically significantly associated with blood sugar lowering behavior (p 0.035), and knowledge of type 2 diabetes was statistically significantly associated with blood sugar lowering behavior (p 0.004).
