Abstract


This participatory action research aimed at developing safety working guidelines, reducing accidents and illnesses from work, and encouraging personnel to participate in the development of safety behaviors in the workplace. A sample of 7 personnel, the entire population in the laundry department, was purposively selected. The research instrument consisted of data record form from surveys, observations, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions based on the concept of safety management and safety attitudes at work. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the interviewed guideline was 0.84. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage and content analysis.


The results revealed that the development of safety working guidelines for personnel in the cleaning department, Krathumbaen Hospital consists of 2 parts: (1) 3 elements of workplace safety management:  personnel: education, manuals, VDO clips and posters on working operations, use of personal protective equipment, set up workload assignment, promote participation in development of safety behaviors, and supervision of working operations; environment: training on germs and the effects of detergents, and separation of clean and dirty areas; tools/ equipment: procurement of fabrics and sufficient fabric pick-up trucks. (2) development of safety working attitudes that consisted of providing knowledge on safety and using personal protective equipment as well as motivation and support for group activities. Thus, the development of safety working guidelines could save personnel from accidents or illness related to work, and every personnel did participate in the development of safety behavior.
