Abstract
Newly graduated nurses will be able to practice nursing at a basic level and require supervision, they are expected to be of sufficient and complete competencies from both clients and graduate users. The objective of this descriptive study aimed to study the perception of nursing instructors towards entrustable professional activities (EPAs) of newly graduated nurses. The samples consist of study 15 nursing instructors from 3 nursing education institutes, 5 nursing instructors from each of institute, and 1 from each of nursing department, with at least 10 years of teaching and supervisory experience. The research instrument was the questionnaire consisting of 147 specific EPAs scored on a 5-point Likert scale with providing the actual and expected ideal scores for each of the EPAs. The Delphi technique was used to collect the data. Data analysis were conducted via median, and Chi-square.
The results showed that the actual EPAs were most commonly perceived to be at the fourth level, followed by the third and fifth level, respectively. The expected EPAs were the fourth and fifth level, mostly at the fifth level. The expected ideal levels of EPAs were consistently higher than actual levels with a statistical significance at the level of 0.001. The expected EPAs were at the fourth level or higher, whereas the actual EPAs was also available at the third level. For the safety of clients, the actual EPAs below the fourth level should receive more practices before graduation.
