Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to explore the existing knowledge for assessment and prophylaxis toward VTE among the nursing staff from surgical intensive care and semi- intensive care units in tertiary hospital, Thailand. Participants consisted of the nursing staff working at 5 surgical intensive care and semi- intensive care units in tertiary hospital, Thailand. Data were collected via google form using the 60 items of VTE true-false questionnaire tested with Cronbach alpha coefficient 0.78. Data were analyzed using percentage, range, mean, standard deviation and independent T test.
The results of the study shown that out of 100 participants eligible for using google form questionnaires, 91 were responded (response rate was 91%. Their level of knowledge for VTE phenomena both of basic knowledge, etiology, exhibiting sign, symptoms knowledge and risk assessment knowledge were fairly good (75.6% and 79.5% of samples answered of the items correctly). However, the knowledge regarding prophylaxis was at poor level (correct response rate was 69.3%). The knowledge scores among educational level and experience were not significantly difference (p> 0.05). The study conclusion that the prophylaxis measure knowledge for VTE phenomena of all nurse samples rate are poor. This study suggested to continue ICU nurse educational specifically and develop learning media with workshop on VTE risk assessment and prophylaxis.
