Abstract

The descriptive research aimed to examine the relationship between learning behavior and the nursing college’s environments on the perception of cognitive skills among nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Changwat Nonthaburi. The subjects consisted of 153 second-year nursing students studying in the academic year 2018. Data were collected using a set of online questionnaires, including the perception of learning behavior, the nursing college’s environments, and the perception of cognitive skill. Reliability was reported as Cronbach's alpha .90, .97, and .96 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation), and the Pearson product moment correlation coefficient.

The study’s finding revealed mean scores of the learning behavior, the perception of nursing college’s environments and the perception of cognitive skills were at a “high” level (Mean = 3.61, 3.64, 3.99 respectively). There were positively significant relationships between learning behavior in the class, after the class, environment of curriculum, lecturers, friends, physical environment and the perception of cognitive skills (p < .01). The most relationship were found between learning behavior in class and the perception of cognitive skill (r = .58, p < .01), and lecturers and the perception of cognitive skills (r = .54, p < .01).  The lecturers should create a positive lecturer-student relationship, and encourage nursing student’s interaction in the classroom and outside in order to enhancing cognitive skills of nursing students.
