Learning Behaviors of Nursing Students to Study Online during the COVID-19 Situation

Abstract

This study was cross-sectional descriptive research. The purpose was to study and compare the scores of learning behaviors in nursing students to study online during the COVID-19 situation. The 196 samples were 2nd-4th year nursing students academic year 2020 in Saint Louis College. The samples were selected by stratified random sampling. The research instrument was questionnaire consisting of personal data, and learning behaviors of nursing students. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA and Least significant difference (LSD)

The results indicated that the overall learning behaviors of the 2nd- 4th year nursing students at a moderate level with an average score of 3.28 (S.D. = .31). The motivation in learning was the highest average score of 3.67 (S.D.=.53) at a high level and the anxiety in learning was the lowest average score of 2.76 (S.D. = .55) at a moderate level. Thus, the learning behaviors by aspect such as the anxiety, the selecting main ideas and the self-testing in learning were the statistically significant level of .05. Multiple comparison test found that the overall learning behaviors of the 2nd-4th year nursing students were differences, namely the average score of 4th year nursing students with a score of 3.36 (S.D.=.36) was higher than average score 3.21 (S.D.=.25) of 3rd year nursing students.

Conclusion, students of each year have different learning behaviors. The method to motivate students for learning and have good learning behaviors was setting policy, prepare for online teaching and learning management, as well as facilities for online teaching.
