The predictive power of the self-esteem on happiness of aging people in Muang Surin Municipality

Abstract

Abstract

As impairment of age, self esteem is important factor for aging happiness. This study was a predictive research targeting to predict  between the self-esteem  and happiness of aging  persons in Muang Surin Municipality.The methodolody is correlational predictive research.  Subjects were 84 aging persons aged 60 and older adults living in in Muang Surin Municipality, Surin Province that were chosen by random sampling. Data were collected by demographic questionnaire, the self-esteem questionnaire and Thai happiness indicators which is standard tool  so the content validity was not testing. The reliability of questionnaires were 0.82 and 0.94 by using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Data analysis are conducted by using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The relationship among all data is analyzed by using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and the prediction is analyzed by using simple linear regression.

The result showed that most of sample were female (n=60, 71.4%),  mean of age is 70.37, insufficient income(69%) and had chronic disease (71.4%) and  overall happiness of the aging is low (≤ 26 score, 73.8 %). The analysis result found that the self-esteem could predicted the  happiness of aging persons p<.001.

Conclude: The study result suggest that the health care providers should  organize activity  to increase happiness of life in aging persons.
