ABSTRACT
The objective of this cross-sectional study was to examine intention to stay and related factors of registered nurses in primary care units. Sample was 236 registered nurses working at primary care units in northern region of Thailand. The data were collected through online questionnaires by using Google forms from May to September 2019. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression Statistics were employed to examine association between studied factors and intention to stay of registered nurses in primary care units.
The results show that the intention to stay of registered nurses in primary care units was mostly at a high level (69.5%, Mean = 2.62, S.D. = 0.62). Job satisfaction, family well-being and educational level were significantly associated with intention to stay related to intention to stay of registered nurses in primary care units. Multiple regression analysis revealed that job satisfaction and family well-being could explain the variance of intention to stay of registered nurses in primary care units by 22.5% (F = 22.512, p-value < .001).
According to this study, the administrators should evaluate workloads and allocate human resources in the department to be sufficient for the amount of work, fairness in assessing work, including rewards when performing well or achieving goals. Opportunities should be promoted and provided for registered nurses in primary care units to develop themselves as needed to increase job satisfaction, and family well-being should be promoted among registered nurses in primary care units because it can affect the intention to stay in the work of registered nurses in primary care units.
