The Development of Community-based Rabies Implementation and Surveillance Model

Abstract

This research and development of objectives of this research were to develop a model and
evaluate a development of community-based rabies implementation and surveillance model. The
research procedure consisted of 4 stages as follows, Stage 1: studying the base datum, on
rabies implementation and surveillance; Stage 2: creating the community-based rabies implementation and surveillance model; Stage 3: doing a pilot study of community-based rabies implementation and surveillance model; Stage 4: evaluate a development of community-based rabies
implementation and surveillance model. The community-based models for rabies implementation
and surveillance were instruments. Data were collected using the knowledge test with the total
confidence value (KR-20) equal to .90, the participation questionnaire with the total confidence
value of .89, record form and satisfaction test form. Descriptive statistics were analyzed data and
Paired t-test to test level of confidence at .05 and 95% CI.
Findings could be concluded that: The development community-based rabies models for
implementation and surveillance procedure consisted of 4 stages as follows; (1) Studying a
context and analyzing a situation (2) Creating an action plan (3) Implementing and
(4) Exchanging knowledge and reflection. After intervention found that samples had knowledge
mean scores about rabies operations and surveillance overall more than before development (p
<.001) with a knowledge score greater than before development was 7.48 scores (95%CI;
7.096, 7.858) and the sample had an overall participation mean scores greater than before
development (p <.001) with a participation scores greater than before development was 1.12
(95%CI; 1.051, 1.191). Overall satisfaction was at the level of high (Mean = 4.16, S.D. = 0.57).
A survey of dogs and cats showed that there were 4,897 dogs and 673 cats, a total of 5,570.
Dogs and cats were vaccinated 5,570 (100%).
Results of this study suggest that a community-based rabies models for implementation
and surveillance are providing a network with knowledge and participation in implementation and
surveillance, increasing satisfaction and operating results. Therefore, relevant agencies should
take this model into action
