Abstract

ABSTRACT
The objective of the research were:1) to determine the level of knowledge perception and awareness to risk management and patient safety; 2) to examine the relationship of knowledge, perception and awareness towards risk management and patient safety; 3) to compare the knowledge, perception, and awareness of risk management and patient safety towards the third and fourth year nursing students. The 219 samples were selected by specific sampling method. The instruments were used as follows:
1) knowledge test on risk management and patient safety which had the confidence at
0.74 (Kuder-Richarson20). 2) self-efficacy questionnaire on risk management and patient safety; and 3) risk management and patient safety awareness questionnaire had the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient at 0.85 and 0.95 consequently. The data was then statistically analyzed by average, standard deviation, Pearson Correlation, and t-test.
The results of the study were as follows.
1) Knowledge, perception, and awareness of risk management and patient safety
towards nursing students were found at good level(µ =31.54, σ =3.43),(µ =3.85, σ=0.49), (µ =4.19, σ =0.42).
2) Knowledge, perception, and awareness of risk management and patient safety were related statistically significant (p<0.05).
3) Knowledge, perception, and awareness of risk management and patient safety towards nursing students of the third and fourth year were significantly different (p<0.05). This research suggested that the administrator of educational institute should encourage instructor in integrating the risk management concept and patient safety with the learning in both theory and practical subject related to nursing field. This would make nursing students getting more knowledge, perception, and awareness about patient safety.
