Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

       This survey research aimed to study selected factors affecting academic achievement in nursing students at Mission Faculty of Nursing, Asia-Pacific International University. The sample size were 325 undergraduate nursing students ranging from 1st – 4th year. The independent variables were attitudes toward studying nursing, internal and external environment and learning technique. The reliability of the questionnaire were 0.67, 0.90 and 0.91 respectively. Data analysis included the use of mean, standard deviation, One-way ANOVA, and Multiple Regression Correlation Coefficient.  

       Results revealed that the selected factors (attitudes toward studying nursing, internal and external environment and learning technique) were the same perception as much level both total and classified by class and academic achievement was moderate level. No differences among the variables (academic achievement, attitudes toward studying nursing, internal and external environment and learning technique) by class level results revealed (P > .05). The independent variables were internal and external environment and attitudes toward studying nursing of this study was responsible for only 14.20 % of academic achievement (R2 = .142, p < .05). Therefore, administrators and instructors should focus more on improving the learning environment in order to support students’ academic achievement. Ways of doing this include enhancing positive attitudes toward the nursing profession and aid in building relationships among students.
