Factors affecting tuberculosis preventive behaviors among people with tuberculosis contact in factors affecting Sawankhalok District Sukhothai Province.

This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the factors influencing tuberculosis (TB) prevention behaviors among household contacts of pulmonary TB patients in Sawankhalok District, Sukhothai Province. The sample consisted of 156 household contacts of pulmonary TB patients. Data were collected from May 1 to August 30, 2024, using a validated questionnaire. The instrument had been assessed for content validity and reliability, yielding a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.78. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis via the stepwise method.
The findings revealed that two significant predictors of TB prevention behavior among household contacts were: perceived susceptibility to TB infection (β = 0.449, p < 0.001) and perceived barriers to TB prevention (β = 0.274, p < 0.006). These factors jointly explained 88.3% of the variance in TB prevention behavior.Therefore, relevant agencies should promote accurate knowledge regarding TB transmission among household contacts of TB patients in Sawankhalok District. Moreover, proactive awareness-raising activities should be implemented to foster appropriate self-protective behaviors against TB.
