The Effects of Slow Breathing Exercises on Blood Pressure Levels in Stage 2 Hypertensive Patients at Khlong Hoi Khong Hospital
Keywords:
Slow breathing exercises, High blood pressure levels, Stage 2 hypertensionAbstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to compare the differences of blood pressure levels of stage 2 hypertensive patients before and after participating in the slow breathing exercises and to compare the differences of blood pressure levels of stage 2 hypertensive patients who had no received treatment yet. The samples were the patients aged 18 and over who came to the hospital for having treatment at the outpatient department of Khlong Hoi Khong hospital. The samples were divided into 2 groups which each group had 30 patients. The control group received knowledge about hypertension and sitting and resting, while the experimental group received knowledge about hypertension and training of slow breathing exercises. The rresearch tool was the digital blood pressure machine checking the accuracy once a year. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics including Pair t-test and Independent t-test. The results revealed that after the experiment, the average blood pressure levels of stage 2 hypertensive patients decreased lower than before the experiment significantly at a level of .05. In addition, the average blood pressure levels of the experimental group had a significant greater decrease in blood pressure levels than the control group at a level of .05. It could be suggested that the slow breathing exercises should be applied in screening of hypertensive patients and added in the patient care process alongside with hypertensive treatment in order to receive proper care and adjust behavior to delay the onset of the disease.
