Workplace Happiness among Personnel at Community Hospital, Nan Province

Abstract

This cross - sectional analytic survey research aims to analyze the level of workplace happiness, and relationship between demographic characteristics and workplace happiness in working staff of a community hospital. The workplace happiness questionnaire was adapted from the Happinometer, developed by the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University. Reliability of questionnaires was 0.775. The subjects included everyone in the hospital. Data analysis was done through chi-square. The result showed that overall degree of happiness at work was happy. The highest mean of happiness dimension was Happy family (87%), and the lowest mean dimension was Happy health (58%). Workplace happiness was statistically related to age and education (p-value < 0.05). There was no statistical relationship between gender, marital status, having child or children, job type, employment status, work duration, family income and workplace happiness at the hospital. The result of this study could be used to create happiness at work in a community hospital staff, such as a period of activity happiness can be created at the beginning of the period of work, sharing experience of senior personnel with others, encouraging exercise, designing specific activities for below bachelor degree group and postgraduate level group.
