The Outcomes of Self-Efficacy Enhancing Program in Patients with Pre and Post Male Reproductive Organ Operation at a Secondary Level Hospital in Ratchaburi Province
Abstract
This study was a quasi-experimental researchwith one group pretest-posttest designto investigate the outcomes of self-efficacy enhancing program in the patients with pre and post male reproductive organ operation at a secondary level hospital in Ratchaburi province. This study adopted the Bandura's self-efficacy framework, and the research samples were twenty-five patients who received foreign material injection on male reproductive organ and decided to get reproductive organ operations. All samples received self-efficacy enhancing program three times; such as: the first was one day before surgery; the second was 6 hours after surgery; and the third was three days after operation, before discharge from the hospital. The research data collection process utilized self-efficacy evaluation form of patients who received male reproductive organ operation and self-care knowledge during pre and post male reproductive organ operation between February and March 2016. The research data were analyzed by a descriptive statistical paired t-test.
The findings of the research showed that after applying the self-efficacy enhancing program, the mean score of self-efficacy was statistically and significantly higher than those before p .01 (x̄= 9.44, S.D. = .352)and the mean score of knowledge pre and post operation male reproduction organ was statistically and significantly higher than those before p .01 (x̄= 15, S.D. = 0) Therefore, based on the research findings it is recommended that the developed self-efficacy enhancing program should be practically applied in medical clinics to help patients get better self-efficacy and knowledge of post male reproductive organ operation and to encourage patients to recover faster after surgery.
