The Effect of Health Education Program on Preventive Behavior for Delaying Kidney Deterioration among Female Cleaning Personnel in Ubon Ratchathani University

Purpose: To study the effect of a health education program on preventive behavior for delaying kidney deterioration among female cleaning personnel at Ubon Ratchathani University.
Design: Quasi-experimental research
Methods: The participants were sixty female cleaning personnel working at Ubon Ratchathani University. The participants were matched into two groups based on age and underlying disease. The control group (n=30) received usual care, while the experimental group (n=30) received the health education program consisting of the details of chronic kidney disease, an innovation called a kidney simulation model and bookless entitled self-care strategies for preventing chronic kidney disease. Data were collected using the preventive behavior for delaying kidney
deterioration questionnaire. Its content validity was assessed by 3 experts and the content validity index was .09.
The internal consistency reliability was tested by Cronbach’s alpha as .84. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent t-test.
Results: After participating in the health education program, the experimental group had a statistically significant higher mean score than before receiving the program (p<.05). The participants who participated in the health education program had a statistically significant higher mean score for preventive behavior for delaying kidney deterioration than the control group (p< .05).
Conclusion: The health education program increases the level of preventive behavior for delaying kidney deterioration among female cleaning personnel at Ubon Ratchathani University. For further study, this program should be implemented and studied in people at risk of chronic kidney disease.
