Family Factors Related to Family Care Behaviors for Patients with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Abstract

           The purpose of this descriptive correlational research was to examine the family care behaviors for patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy and relationships between family factors and family care behaviors for patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The sample consisted of 74 family members who took the patients to receive hyperbaric oxygen therapy, division of underwater medicine and aviation department at Somdech Phra Pinklao Hospital, Somdej Phranangchaosirikit Hospital, and Abhakornkiatiwong Hospital. Research instruments were demographic record form, Family Relationship, Family Stress, and Family Care Behaviors questionnaires. Data analysis used such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient.


            The results showed that family care behaviors for patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy good level and family relationships had significantly moderate positive correlation with family care behaviors for the patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy (r = .322, p < .01). Therefore, nurses responsible for the care of patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy should promote the family relationship of these patients in order to enable families to be aware of and to appreciate the importance of relationships, which contribute to improve family care behaviors in the care of patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
