Nursing Care for Older Persons with Loneliness

Abstract

The loneliness is a common health problem in the elderly population but is often overlooked and misunderstood due to aging changes. It may affect the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs leading to decrease in the quality of life. In addition, it be loneliness bring about to depress by a high risk of suicide and increase the mortality in the elderly. The aims of this article were to review and explain the meaning, signs and symptoms, cause, risk factors, assessment of loneliness, and the role of nurse for caring the elderly with this condition.
