Study of the readiness for use of microscope and the 3rd year medical students’ behavior on handling of microscope, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the readiness for use of microscopes in the laboratory and to study the behavior of the 3^rd year medical students on handling of microscope and to use the information to develop the maintenance plan of microscope in the future. The sample group were 318 of the 3rd year medical students who used microscopes in learning and 306 were participated voluntarily (96.2%). Data was collected from questionnaires through Google form.

The study found out that most of the 3^rd year medical students used Leica microscope DM 500 (68.3%), and 4.6% of high magnification objective lens, 40x,  were not ready to use before the first lesson and 14.1% of the highest magnification objective lens (Oil immersion lens, 100x) was not ready for use and also found that using and maintenance for microscope of medical students as the whole were at high level ( = 4.01, S.D.= 0.63), the behavior of keeping the electric wire with the body of microscope after using was the highest average ( = 4.20, S.D.= 0.54) and 95% of behavior to use cleaning lens paper with Ethyl alcohol to clean lens cover size 40x was the least average ( = 3.84, S.D.= 0.79), most of the improper behavior in maintenance microscopes was due to lack of studying the microscope usage handbook (93.5%).
