Relationship between financial research support and national or international publications at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital

Abstract

         Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University has a vision to be a leading faculty in the international level and also the guiding light for the health of the country. To reach this goal the research should be done at least 1 publication per faculty member per year. But only 0.42 publications per faculty member per year were done this year. So, financial research support was used aiming that publication should be increased. The objective of this study was to analyze (1) trend of the research financial support, (2) trend of national and international publication and (3) the relationship between financial research support and national or international publications at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital.

         This retrospective study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University between 2011-2013.  The financial research supports were divided into 4 groups i.e. internal research funding; publication funding; presentation funding and research reward.  National publications were searched using Thai-Journal Citation Index Center (TCI) and international publications  were searched using SCOPUS data-based.

         The results of the study revealed that the financial research supports between 2011-2013 were slightly increased from 19,411,443 and 19,122,597 to 21,436,232 baht, respectively. The total number of publications were not changed between 2011-2013 : 298, 353 and  295 papers, respectively.  There was no relationship between financial research supports and publications.  This may be due to other factors  effecting publications that needs  further study.
