International Publications and Cited References of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital

Abstract

          Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University has a vision to be a leading faculty at the international level and also the guiding light for the health of the country. The objective of this study was to analyze the cited references of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital by using SCOPUS database for data collection and analysis

          This study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital between 2012-2014. There were a total of 782 international publications and 449 references were cited which was 57.4%. The references were cited 1,2,3,4 and ³ 5 times at 18.4%, 10.1%, 5.0%, 6.5% and 17.4%, respectively.

          Comparing cited references from various department of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, the research that the department which had cited references above the mean of the Faculty were Community Medicine 70.6%, Obstetrics and Gynecology 64.5%, Pathology 63.3%, Medicine 62.3% and EYE 59.1%. When analyzed organ affected and causes of diseases, the research found that cited references were in group of Malignancy 13.1%, Endocrine 11.8%, Thalassemia and Hemophilia 9.6%, HIV and AIDs 8.5% and Rare diseases 7.6%.

          A way to improve high quality research with cited references, is lessons learned from the department that had high cited references. In addition, the research done at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital should be focused on the strength of the faculty staff’ such as Malignancy, Endocrine disorder, Thalassemia, Hemophilia, HIV and AIDs and rare diseases. The target and vision of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital should be reached accordingly.
