Abstract

Purposes : To study the situational problems, and to develop and evaluate the outcomes of a nursing care model for patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Roi Et Hospital.

Study design : Research and Development.

Material and Methods : The sample group consisted of two groups: Patients: 30 patients diagnosed with cholelithiasis undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Roi Et Hospital. Nursing Staff: 10 registered nurses practicing in the Benjasiri 4 and Benjasiri 5 surgical wards. The study was conducted from February, 2026, to May, 2026. The instruments used in this study were categorized into two types: Experimental Instrument: The Nursing Care Model for patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Data Collection Instruments: A set of questionnaires comprising: A demographic and general information questionnaire. A satisfaction assessment scale. A nursing activity record form, designed in accordance with the established nursing care model. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the paired t-test. Statistical significance for all tests was set at p < .05.

Main finding : The primary challenges identified in nursing care for patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy include a lack of clinical clarity and inconsistency in nursing practice protocols. Furthermore, nursing staff require additional skill enhancement to optimize patient care. Regarding the patients, there is a significant lack of awareness concerning the severity of the condition, coupled with suboptimal self-care behaviors. The development of the nursing care model for patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy comprises three distinct phases: Phase 1: Pre-operative nursing care; Phase 2: Post-operative nursing care; and Phase 3: Discharge planning and transitional care. The evaluation of the nursing care model revealed that following its implementation, both patients and healthcare providers reported high levels of satisfaction. (Mean= 2.79 and Mean= 2.91) Comparative analysis showed a statistically significant increase in healthcare provider satisfaction after the implementation of the model (p < .05). Furthermore, there was a statistically significant difference in the performance of nursing activities according to the established clinical model compared to the pre-implementation period (p < .05).

Conclusion and recommendations: The development of the nursing care model for patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Roi Et Hospital has effectively enhanced nursing efficiency. The model provides a well-defined, systematic nursing process, ensuring that patients receive structured care that facilitates a safe and appropriate transition to home recovery.
