Development of a Model for Preventing Musculoskeletal Disorders among Healthcare Workers at Kumpawapi Hospital

Abstract

Purposes : To study the current situation, develop and validate a prevention model, and evaluate the effectiveness of the model in preventing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among staff at Kumphawapi Hospital.

Study design: This study utilized a Research and Development (R&D) design, conducted from January to December 2025. The participants consisted of administrators and staff at all levels. The study was divided into three phases: 1) Situational analysis (n=10), 2) Model development and validation (n=25), and 3) Implementation and evaluation (n=40). Data were collected using questionnaires and record forms. Statistical analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Paired t-test with a 95% Confidence Interval (CI).

Materials and Methods : 1)Situational Analysis: Factors contributing to MSDs included ergonomics, physical health status, psychosocial factors, and individual attitudes toward self-management. 2)Model Development: The developed model, titled "Smart Move, Healthy Staff (3As: Adjust-Alter-Always)," was rated for appropriateness and feasibility at a high level (Mean = 4.45, SD. = 0.42).3)Effectiveness: Following the intervention, the participants' mean score for self-efficacy in MSDs prevention significantly increased by 0.36 points (95%CI: 0.18, 0.54; p < .001). Furthermore, the mean score for preventive behaviors significantly improved by 2.00 points (95%CI: 1.82, 2.17; p < .001).

Conclusion and Recommendations: The developed innovation significantly enhanced self-efficacy and preventive behaviors regarding musculoskeletal disorders among hospital staff. It is recommended for continuous implementation to mitigate work-related health risks.
