Effects of care programs on quality of life, Hemoglobin (Hb) and glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) values of patients and their families, Nong Phok Hospital, Roi Et Province

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis at a dialysis clinic before and after the intervention, and to compare the levels of hemoglobin (Hb) and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) before and after the intervention.
Study Design: This study employed a single-group pretest-posttest experimental design.
Materials and Methods: The study included 45 patients undergoing hemodialysis at Nong Phok Hospital, Roi Et Province. Data were collected from January to December 2024 using a quality of life questionnaire, hemoglobin (Hb) levels, and eGFR measurements. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, including frequency distribution, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. Paired t-test was used to compare eGFR, Hb levels, and quality of life before and after the intervention.
Main finding: The study found that the quality of life of patients improved significantly after the intervention, both in terms of general and kidney disease-specific quality of life. However, no significant differences were found in certain dimensions, such as physical role limitation, mental health, emotional role limitation, social role, and vitality in general quality of life, and in perception, social interaction, and sexual activity in kidney disease-specific quality of life. Additionally, Hb levels and eGFR increased significantly after the intervention.
Conclusion and Recommendations: The medical team, nurses, and multidisciplinary professionals should have a deep understanding of each patient and their family to provide targeted care and improve quality of life. The waiting period for services should be utilized as an important opportunity to deliver health education and psychological support. Additionally, providing a comfortable space with educational activities during the waiting time can enhance learning and offer emotional support to patients' families.
