Nursing care of stroke patients in community: Case Study 2 case

Abstract

Purposes: To study the nursing process and compare the self-care abilities of stroke patients in the community across four domains, with a case study involving two individuals.

Study design: Comparison of 2 case studies.

Material and Methods: This case study involves a comparative analysis of two stroke patients. Patient Case 1 received inpatient treatment at Mueang Sawang Hospital from April 28 to April 30, 2023, while Patient Case 2 was admitted to the same hospital from April 9 to April 11, 2023. Data collection was conducted using nursing theories and holistic patient care approaches, incorporating the Self-Efficacy Theory, Gordon's 11 Health Patterns Framework, the INHOMESSS assessment tool, and the Bethel Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Index.

Main findings: The first Patient: When discharged home, the patient had a caregiver for his daughter to help with physical therapy. and received follow-up home visits 6 months. Nursing operations and holistic patient care with Self-Efficacy Theory. And monitoring and evaluating the ability to perform daily activities with the Bethel ADL Index. Result 14/20 points. The second patient; When discharged home, the patient had a caregiver for his daughter to help with physical therapy. and received follow-up home visits 6 months. Conclusion and recommendations: This study highlights that holistic nursing care addressing physical, psychological, social, and cognitive dimensions, combined with the application of Self-Efficacy Theory over a six-month period, significantly enhances patients' skills in appropriate self-management. It also boosts their motivation and expectations, which are crucial for individuals to effectively alter behavior and adhere to recommendations. Therefore, it is essential to develop programs aimed at enhancing caregivers' self-efficacy to improve stroke patients' self-care abilities and achieve better treatment outcomes.
