Development of a System for Patient's Triage in Patients Together with Colored Symbols Screening Outpost on Emergency Departments, Sri Somdet Hospital

Abstract

Purposes : To develop system and study its effectiveness of system for patient's triage in patients together with colored symbols screening outpost on emergency departments. 

Study design : Research and development.

Materials and Methods : 23 of nurses were key informants. The research were divided into 3 steps: the research process, evaluative research and reporting results. Data were collected using questionnaires, patient classification assessment forms, over/under triage recording forms and incidence recording forms and data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.

Main findings : The screening system consists of 1) Developing hospital triage system according to MOPH, creating a manual and academic training (2) Arranging for patient screening in front of ER by professional nurses with more than 3 years of experience and who have passed academic training in screening Categorize patients (3) Prepared billboards and flow charts according to the level of urgency (4) Re-assessed screening by every shift supervisor (5) Improved nurse assignment system and (6) supervised and follow up by supervisors and inspection shifts, and The effectiveness of screening and classifying patients with colored symbols was found. The triage were correct: 372 of participants (93.00%), incorrect (7.00%), classified as under triage (under triage) for 5 of participants (1.25%) and above the criteria (over triage) for 23 of participants (5.25%).

Conclusion and recommendations : The results of this research resulted in patients being assessed for their health status in order to quickly isolate patients, reduced operational errors, resulting in reduced waiting times to see a doctor and reduced time and create satisfaction for service recipients and staff.
