Result of Postpartum Education and Lactation Support on Breastfeeding Knowledge and Skills in the Early Postpartum Cesarean Section at Suwannaphum Hospital

Abstract

Purposes : This study aims to assess the impact of educational interventions and maternal assistance on the breastfeeding knowledge and skills of mothers immediately following a cesarean section. The research

Study design : A quasi-experimental Pretest - posttest approach.

Material and Methods : 40 of samples mothers after cesarean section. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire, and LATCH Score assessment. Data were collected between April and June, 2021, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, mean, percentage, standard deviation, and Paired t - test.

Main findings :  After experiment, it was found that the samples had a higher knowledge score about breastfeeding than before experiment (p<.001), with an increased of 4.10 (95%CI: 3.59, 4.61) and a score of breastfeeding skills, higher than before experiment (p<.001) with an increase of 0.70 points (95%CI: 0.64, 0.91).

Conclusion and recommendations : The results of this research show that teaching and assisting mothers in positioning helps mothers after cesarean section resulting in mothers having increased breastfeeding knowledge and skills, therefore, it should be implemented as a standard of care in postpartum period.
