Abstract

Purposes : To compareHB and IA during reduction of displaced distal end radius fracture to identify the levelof pain relief

Study Design : A single-blinded randomized, Prospective studywas conducted.

Materials and Methods : All 36 ofpatients were randomly divided into two groups.

The experimental group (n = 18)received5 mL of 2% lidocaine were injected into the fracture site andthe control group (n = 18) received4 mg of morphine combine with 5 mg of diazepam were injected ver intravenous route. The fracture was manipulated after 15 minutes and the VisualAnalogue Scale (VAS) score was recorded before and during manipulation. Patients were followed up forapproximately 30 minutes and complications were recorded. Data were analyzed statistically using Independent samples test, statistically significant 95% Confidence interval.

Main findings : In this study we found the experimental group(HB)had higher mean scores of pain difference level thanthe control group(IA) was significantly differential (p<.001), there was difference value 2.17 (95% CI; 1.64, 2.96)and complications of each group found thatintravenous anesthesia group (IA) (control) 2 persons had nausea, 1 person vomits, and 1 elderly person hadsleep apnea . But no infection was found after 1 month of follow-up in both groups.

Conclusion and recommendations : The Hematoma block (HB) technique was efficiency significant differential to provides pain relief and reduce complication of morphine and diazepam usedduring manipulationof a displaced distal end radius fracture
