Comparison of knowledge in practice before and after health education in orthopedic surgery patients while waiting for surgery at Suwannaphum Hospital

Abstract

Purpose :  to compare knowledge of practice in orthopedic surgery.

Design : . Qua-si experimental study

Materials and Methods : The sample were selected by 30 Purposive  methods form patients who underwent orthopedic surgery in the operating room of Suwannaphum Hospital. The instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 2 parts: general data and a knowledge test which passed content validation from experts and tested for confidence by Cronbach's alpha method value of 0.74.  Data were collected  and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as percentage, average and standard deviation. And inferential statistics including dependent t – test

Main findings: After the intervention, it was found that the sample group had more than mean score on knowledge to practice when surgery compared to before intervention (p <.001), with an average increase 2.60 points (95% Cl: -3.36, -1.83)

Conclusion and recommendations: Suggestions should have guidelines for performing before surgery, such as removing metal jewelry buried in the body. There should be additional studies on factors affecting knowledge in health education teaching regarding the practice of patients undergoing orthopedic surgery, such as education level, occupation, economic status. And to implement a health education teaching plan about practice in orthopedic surgery patients to be used as a guideline for other surgical patients, such as General surgery, Gynecology, Outpatients who undergo one day surgery as a guideline for the development of care for other surgery patients.
